About

Be comfortable, be heard, be understood!

Come on in, sit across from me, and let’s chat. You will find me – and the office – to be warm and inviting, which is precisely the environment that you or your son need to share meaningfully about life.

I’ve heard people describe me over and over as being “really nice.” When a lot has happened in your life and you know you’ll be sharing about deep stuff, you’ll find it easier when you know that the person on the receiving end is kind and caring.

Watch as I nod in understanding as you describe stuff you thought no one would get about you. When you pause, you’ll often find me checking to make sure I understand and fully get it. I might ask you a follow-up question to make sure I’m tracking with you as accurately as possible.

Over time, progress takes root.

As you meet with me, it becomes clear that you have become comfortable with me and that I know your life very well. This high level of understanding allows us to get deeper and deeper, helping you develop skills and tools to address new problems, even when I’m not around.

When your son is not with me, he’ll find himself thinking about our sessions, what was said, repeating it to himself, and applying on his own what he has learned with me.

Over time, you will realize that you have improved so much, come to peace with your past, and have the skills to move forward.

About Me

Hi again, I’m so glad you’re here, thinking about seeing me!

I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in California (license #7903). I believe that being a counselor is part of my calling from God for my life. Living out my purpose in this way is a dream come true, and I am so honored to have this role in young people’s lives.

As for my background, I spent several years as an elementary school teacher in Phoenix (2nd & 4th grades) before becoming a youth pastor at a church in Tempe, Arizona.

In 2006, I graduated from Arizona State University with a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. In 2012, I graduated from Grand Canyon University with two degrees: A Master of Science in Professional Counseling and a Master of Science in Addiction Counseling.

Since 2012, I have been in mental health counseling. Most recently, I became certified as a Clinical Child & Adolescent Anxiety Treatment Professional. Being fluent in Spanish allows me to provide services en español si quiera. I am still a Licensed Professional Counselor in Arizona and am also available for telehealth appointments with clients living anywhere in California or Arizona.

In my personal life…

You’ll find me leading an active lifestyle. You can often find me training for my next half or full marathon, at the beach, spending time with friends or family, volunteering at my church’s youth group, reading, watching or playing various sports, scuba diving, or traveling.

I finally returned home to California in 2020 after many years in Arizona’s desert. It’s fantastic to be back, but I sure miss Dutch Bros Coffee.

Hope to see you soon,

Josh 🙂
